Abstract

This study presents two validated chromatographic methods for determining aspirin, paracetamol, caffeine anhydrous, dextromethorphan hydrobromide, and chlorpheniramine maleate in Vegaskin-D® tablets. Method I used high performance thin layer liquid chromatography densitometric method (HPTLC-densitometric), using a stationary phase of silica gel 60 F254, and UV detection at 254.0 nm resulting in well-resolved, symmetrical, and sharp peaks. Method II used gas chromatography (GC) with a flame ionization detector. The results showed that the proposed methods can effectively be implemented for routine analysis and quality control of drugs in fixed-dose combination tablets. The GC method has an advantage over HPTLC- densitometric method due to the separation of salicylic acid; main degradation product of Aspirin
