Abstract
Background: A wide range of respiratory illnesses like common colds, Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) are caused by coronaviruses.
In 2019 scientists in Wuhan, China discovered a new coronavirus (COVID-19). Unknown new coronavirus that infected people for the first time and causes losses for humans. It has caused a large number of deaths around the world and a greater number of injuries, and the countries of the world began to take measures and closures to confront the spread of this virus, and the economy was greatly affected.
Aim of Study: This study provides actual data about load that face ministry of health in Egypt during the management of COVID -19 crises, through evaluating the healthcare cost (Direct medical costs and indirect cost) associated with running the crise Covid-19.
Method: A retrospective study was done based on data collected from records of patients who are admitted to fever hospital Delta Egypt suffering from Covid-19. The study evaluated the direct medical costs and indirect cost during their stay in hospital. The study assessed 404 subjects between March-2020 to March 2021.
This descriptive-analytical study will discuss the economic burden of COVID-19 on the budget of ministry of health through assessment the part of healthcare cost (Direct medical costs). The research consisted of patients who visited the Ashmoun Fever Hospitals - Delta - Egypt for their symptoms of COVID-19.
Results: the 404 patients being studied we observed that, according to demographics including gender and age, we have 46 % male, 54% Female, the total direct medical cost were estimated to be 13,445,113,980.97 LE and per patient was estimated cost to be 26,074.3612 LE, the mean indirect cost were estimated to be 27,389.40 LE.
Conclusion: The results of the study showed the severe danger of this virus, which affected all countries of the world. The high cost that health care systems afford, which demonstrated the ability of health care systems to withstand the pandemic in large numbers. The impact of the economy on the short and long-term is a great burden, and this impact differed on the policies and procedures of all countries that have undertaken to confront this pandemic.
