Abstract
The study aimed to investigate the effects of long-term consumption of high doses of ginger extract on various parameters in Wistar rats. The study followed OECD 408 testing guidelines and administered oral aqueous ginger extract at doses of 500, 1,000, and 2,000 mg/kg body weight to the rats for 90 days. The rats were euthanized on the 91st day, blood samples collected for biochemical analysis. The ginger extract did not significantly affect haematological, endocrine and oxidative stress parameters. In conclusion, the extract did not result in haematological or endocrine toxicity in rats but positively reduced body weight and cholesterol levels.
